The concept behind this piece is found in Nu Descendant un escalier, numéro 2 a pre-Dadaist piece presented by Marcel Duchamp shown at the "First Cubist exhibition" held in Barcelona, Spain. The painting was an upheaval in the art community. No one had ever seen anything like it. So, Dali pays tribute to his friend by creating the opposite to the famous painting and we are left with this beautiful body - climbing the spirals in a marine shell, symbol of life, exuding reflection and eroticism. 1939. The year Dalí debuted his Dream of Venus surrealist pavilion, with bizarre sculptures, statues, and live models in "costumes" made of fresh seafood. This bizarre scene, "The Mannequin", depicts a curve marking the movement of the figure, complemented with magnificent expression of the colors of both figures present at the composition and the background in which the shadow if the main figure is projected with devil horns, hunting the dual personality of the principal figure. Rarely in Art History does a symbol emerge which is more recognized than the “Soft Watch”. The sight of a melted object is often enough to evoke thoughts of Spanish master Salvador Dali’s masterpiece “Persistence of Memory” (1931- Museum of Modern Art, New York). According to Dali, the watches are "nothing more than the soft, extravagant, solitary, paranoiac-critical Camembert cheese of space and time... Hard or soft, what difference does it make! As long as they tell time accurately.” Solitary, Museum Of Modern Art, Art History, Camembert Cheese, Spanish

Salvador Dali “El Sobrero de tres picos” (1949) Gouache on cardboard 28.5cm x 35.5cm Dali created the decor and costumes for the 1949 ballet, “Sombrero de tres Picos” at the Ziegfeld Theater in NYC. It provided Dali with a challenge to create a theater set which was quintessentially Spanish, populated by levitating trees, guitar-shaped buildings, and floating sacks intended to echo the movement of the dancers on the stage. This is a study for the set design. Gothic Quarter, Stage Set, Artist At Work
