Brigid was an Irish, Celtic Goddess who was worshipped as the one who could aid people in survival against all odds. When Christianity came to Ireland, she was somehow able to become both St. Brigid, and also maintain her identity as a Pagan Goddess. Pretty nifty, wouldn't you say?
