Lacquer box with “Pommel Scroll” design, made in China in the late century
Ubiquitous in the decoration of carved lacquer and also found in clay and metal, the design on this box was designated the “pommel scroll” as early as the Song period and this term is widely used in the cataloguing of lacquer
I have a cinnabar box almost identical to this in my living room. I doubt it's that old, though. These are to century Chinese lacquer.
