Lluís Companys (Tarrós, 1882 - Barcelona, 1940). Lawyer and politician. He was the 123rd President of Catalonia, from 1934 to 1940. Exiled after the Spanish Civil War, he was captured and executed by firing squad. Companys is the only incumbent president in Europe to have been executed, and seventy-two years later the Spanish state has not yet annulled the council of war which sentenced him to death.
