Ten Awe-Inspiring Photos

This photo shows active regions on the sun combined to look something like a jack-o-lantern’s face. The image was captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory in October which watches the sun at all times from its orbit in space.

Mercury

You can name a crater on Mercury. NASA recently reported that the Mercury orbiter the MESSENGER located five of the impact craters over the last three years

M31, also known as the Andromeda galaxy, is one of the closest galaxies to our own at “only” 2.5 million light-years away.

8 images of galaxies far, far away

Andromeda is our nearest neighboring galaxy at million light years away. One single light year is roughly 6 trillion miles. Feeling small yet?

Callisto - one of Jupiter's moons and one of my very favorite things in space. It's so beautiful :3

Callisto - Fourth moon of Jupiter after Io - Europa - Ganymede. Formed of rock and ices Third largest moon in our solar system after Titan (Saturn) and Ganymede (Jupiter) respectively. Jupiter's Io being fourth and our Luna fifth.

Venuksen pinnasta noin 80 prosenttia koostuu laavatasankojen muodostamasta mosaiikkikuviosta, jossa siellä täällä on yli sata erillistä suurta kilpitulivuorta ja lisäksi pienempiä tulivuoria sekä koronoita.

This image shows the surface of the northern hemisphere of Venus as observed by NASA's Magellan radar-mapping spacecraft, which peered through the planet's thick clouds during a mission that ended in Scientists now suspect Venus may have once harbor

La Navidad en el espacio

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured an X-class solar flare erupting on the Sun on December This image blends two wavelengths of extreme UV light, 171 (gold) and 131 (purple).

The probe also captured detailed images of Charon, and they dubbed this wide dark area as Mordor. Maybe Sauron really exist.

Probe zooms into Pluto's plains

Remarkable new details of Pluto’s largest moon Charon are revealed in this image from New Horizons’ Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI), taken late on July 2015 from a distance of miles kilometers).

Every time we see this photo it's awe-inspiring. Pluto is - at its closest - 4.28 billion kilometres away from us. We found it in 1930, made it a planet, demoted it, and in 2015 snapped this photo, finding Pluto's heart. ♥️ : NASA/Johns Hopkins University APL/Southwest Research Institute

Venus is one unique planet when it comes to rotational motion. It takes Venus 243 Earth days to completely rotate on its axis, but just 225 days to orbit the sun. Venus also is one of two planets that rotates in reverse, a phenomenon called retrograde motion, which according to most theories is due to an ancient planetary collision.

Galaxy IDCS 1426

January 07 2016 : Galaxy Cluster IDCS 1426 Astronomers have made the most detailed study yet of an extremely massive young galaxy cluster using three of NASAs Great Observatories.
