Jacqueline Nearne (and, separately, her sister Eileen) was a British spy operating in France long before the Allieds sent in uniformed commando teams. Vera Obolensky was a member of the French resistance and a Russian princess by marriage. She was sentenced to death for her anti Nazi activities and beheaded in Berlin Plotzensee prison on 4 August 1944. In 1958, during an official ceremony in Rueil-la-Gadelière she was posthumously awarded the Cross of Knight of the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre. Virgiana Hall American Spy- She worked on an ambulance corps until the Vichy government took over, at which point she went to England & volunteered for the newly founded SOE. After training she was returned to Vichy-controlled France, where she supported the Resistance until the total Nazi takeover.
