A 1,200-year-old Coptic text that tells part of the Passion (the Easter story).  Coptic or Coptic Egyptian is the latest stage of the Egyptian language, a northern Afro-Asiatic language spoken in Egypt until at least the 17th century.  Coptic is an extinct language, in the sense that it has no native speakers. However, it is presently a liturgical language of the Coptic Orthodox and Coptic Catholic churches (along with Arabic).
