Among the refinements of middle-class Victorian shopping was the giving of change not directly from hand to hand but in paper packets. Chamber’s Edinburgh Journal in a review of London shops and shopping (15 October 1853), makes passing note of the custom.  Site has small collection of change packets.

There's a bit of dissonance here with the gravity of the discussion regarding GMOs and the use of silly faces cut into bread slices. But I think the playfulness is a nice first impression to the piece because it signals that the topic will be presented in an accessible manner and will include different perspectives (whilst offering critical analysis). The relative size and weight of "GMO" in conjunction with the white space implicate its significance.
