The Decline of the West is a two-volume work by Oswald Spengler, the first volume of which was published in the summer of 1918. Spengler revised this volume in 1922.  in 1923. Spengler presented a worldview that resonated with the post-WWI German mood — a view of democracy as the type of government of the declining civilization. He argued that democracy is driven by money-breeding and therefore easily corruptible. Spengler initially supported the rise of a dictatorial or fascist government..

Oswald Spengler was a German historian and philosopher of history whose interests included mathematics, science, and art. He is best known for his book The Decline of the West.
