Captain Eustace Jotham V.C. Old Bromsgrovian. Photographed 1913 (approx) wearing uniform of the 51st Sikhs FF. Died Waziristan January 1915 trying to save the life of one of his men, surrounded and overcome by tribesmen. Victoria Cross awarded posthumously. V.C. now in possession of Bromsgrove School.

Captain Arthur Freer Spreckley, 9th Battalion, Gurkha Rifles. One of the three Spreckley brothers from Bromsgrove School who died in the Great War. Originally commissioned into the 2nd battalion Worcester Regiment he transferred to the Indian Army in 1909. He was wounded in France in October 1915 and in consequence he was sent back to India with his wife and daughter. All were lost in SS Persia, the first passenger liner to be sunk by a German U boat without warning. 200 people perished.
