St. Martin De Porres was born in Lima, Peru, to a Spanish father and a freed slave mother from Panama. When he was 15, he became a servant in the Dominican Friary, doing many chores including being a barber and a farmer! He was very kind and compassionate to the poor and the sick. He also loved animals! Later he became a Lay Dominican Brother. He lived an austere life helping people of all races in Lima. He is the patron saint of mixed race people and barbers. His feast day is on 3 November.
