A Quechua weaver told me why women use the back-strap loom. This type of loom, is tied to a tree and the other end to the waist of the weaver, and it unites the world below with the world above. Weavers receive this vital force, in the area of the belly. The loom symbolizes the body, the warps are the veins, and the weft is food.
Mayan Art - The style used in the paintings is unlike any that I have seen. While Europeans were painting their own masterpieces, the Mayan artists were painting these bold, colorful masterpieces, yet to be appreciated as such.
