Garshin is more than just a beautifully rendered head. In this painting I feel like I am seeing the whole story of a man’s life depicted in the eyes alone. When I first saw Garshin, I immediately did some research to discover who he was in real life.
Old Man in Prayer-Rembrandt. We all project onto art.that's the point of art. And my projection with this beautiful painting is sadness. More specifially, despair. Almost as if those prayers just weren't helping.
I had been keeping my eye on the work of Adrian Gottlieb. A former student of the Florence Academy I find his work to be striking, especially because of its link to the past and the feel of Florentine painters.
