Letter describing Jane Seymour’s post-birth illness. EXCERPT: ‘all this night she [Jane] hath bene very syck and doth rather appare [worsen] then amend’. The second from the bottom signature, William Butts. Butts was one of Henry VIII’s physicians and often dealt with royal and noble patients.
"OWEN TUDOR. WELSH HUSBAND OF QUEEN CATHERINE, DOWAGER QUEEN OF KING HENRY V. HE WAS EXECUTED AT HEREFORD IN 1461 FOLLOWING THE BATTLE OF MORTIMERS CROSS. GRANDFATHER OF KING HENRY VIII, FOUNDER OF THE TUDOR DYNASTY, HIS SEVERED HEAD IS SAID TO HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE TOP STEP OF THE MARKET CROSS WHICH ONCE STOOD NEAR THIS SPOT".
