Elizabeth 'Eliza' Hocking & her sister, Ellen Wilkes, came to America aboard the Titanic. Eliza & her family traveled in 2nd class, while her sister Ellen purchased a 3rd class ticket. All were headed to Akron, Ohio. As Titanic began sinking Eliza and her party except her son, George, got into lifeboat number 4 and were rescued by the Carpathia. George perished in the disaster. Ellen Wilkes boarded lifeboat number 16 and was also saved. Both women lived in Akron for the rest of their lives…
