Cheerios brand breakfast cereal is made by General mills and was first introduced on May 1, 1941 under the original name CherriOats. Initial shipments of the cereal to 6 test markets began on May 2, 1941 . The name was changed to Cheerios in 1946 because of a trade name dispute with Quaker Oats.
