“Hine-turama’s themes are unity, cooperation, universal law and the sky. Her symbols are stars and spaceships (or artistic depictions of space). The Maori of New Zealand believed that this Goddess created the stars that fill our night skies with such beauty. Today we look to Her to expand our awareness of the universe and its wonders and possibilities.

@All Around This World Music New Zealand's Waitangi Day marks the Feb 6th, 1840, signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between the British Crown and Chiefs from the Pacific islands' indigenous Maori people. New Zealand seems to do its darndest to fill the day with appreciation of Maori culture. In that vein we'll chant "Te Waka" from AATW's Oceania season which is a haka, a powerful Maori war dance that consists of stomping, body-slapping and much intimidating face-making.
