Minnie Freeman was a Nebraska teacher in 1888 who roped her students together and led them through a total white-out blizzard from the schoolhouse whose roof had collapsed, to the safety of a farmhouse three-quarters of a mile away.
Texan Cynthia Ann captured as a girl by the Comanches in 1836 and became mother of Comanche War Chief Quanah Parker Quanah Parker is my great grandfather. Ann became a part of the Comanche tribe. When rescue was received she didn't want to leave.
1874 Captured by Indians along with her three younger sisters, Catherine German was subjected to repeated rapes and beatings by the tribe that held her prisoner. Her parents and two other siblings were murdered and scalped. She was held for 5 months.
Such a tragedy: Clara Blinn was a white settler who, with her two-year-old son Willie, was captured by Cheyenne indians in October 1868 in Colorado Territory during an attack on the wagon train in which she and her family were traveling.
