A Basque member of the Spanish Blue Division (Spanish: División Azul) has dinner on a hospital patio with a kitten after returning from the Eastern Front. The Blue Division was a unit of Spanish volunteers that served in the German Army (Wehrmacht Heer).
Each of the Baltic countries has a museum of the Soviet Occupation, which lasted fifty years. Tens of thousands were murdered or deported to Siberia. This is a village of Lithuanians in the Gulag. Many never returned to their home country.

The Mask of Sorrows The design was created by famed sculptor Ernst Neizvestny, whose parents fell victim to the Stalinist purges of the 1930s; the monument was constructed by Kamil Kazaev. The mask stands 15 metres high and takes up 56 cubic metres of space. The Mask of Sorrow is a monument in Magadan in Russia dedicated to those who died in Soviet gulags.
