This is where I'm putting my revision for my GCSEs. It's more to motivate me to study, but if anyone needs anything to help, be my guest. **IMPORTANT** this is a few years old now, and I'm university. Please don't ask me to add more content for this. I'm doing one subject now, not 13. I'm not here to do your work for you. Reading this alone will not get you good grades. It is a point of reference. You also need to do lots of practice papers and questions. I'll have a couple of chapters for each subject that I do, which are: •English Language •English Literature •Maths •Further Maths •Chemistry •Physics •Biology •Religious Studies •Business Studies •Textiles Technology •Geography •Drama •I used to do Spanish, but I did my GCSE early, but I think I still have some stuff I used to revise. All of my courses are on the new 1-9 GCSE system apart from Business, Textiles, Further Maths, and Spanish, which are U-A*. Again, this is the British system, so while some stuff might be useful to you wherever you're from, please bear in mind that it will be different from country to country.

You have to go step by step, from easier ones to complex ones. You have to learn a lot about alkanes, alkenes, alkynes. Then you have to practice how to draw them or how to give them IUPAC name. Then start with cycloalkanes, cycloalkenes, ... Eventually start with complex ones: alcohols, phenoles, ethers... Here is a short list of most important functional groups.

Organic chemistry nomenclature is based on the IUPAC nomenclature system. The IUPAC system is a set of rules used and the structural formula allows the chemist to write the unique names of the compounds. There are three essential features: "A root or base indicating a major chain or ring of carbon atoms found in the molecular structure" "A suffix or other element(s) designating functional groups that may be present in the compound" "Names of substituent groups, other than hydrogen, that complete the molecular structure" The nomenclature includes alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, functional groups (alcohol, halogens, ketones, aldehydes, carboxlix acids, ethers, esters, amines, amides and cyclic compounds). Alkanes are also called paraffins and all the carbons are bonded together in a straight chain (not always the case). There are called straight - chain or normal alkanes. While naming alkanes,, the longest carbon chain is determined and a prefix is even to the name (i.e. meth, eth) ending with -ane. Alkenes and alkynes are hydrocarbons which have double or triple bond functional group. The sufix for alkenes or cycloalkene is -ene and the suffix (ending) are -yne for alkynes or cycloalkynes. Alkynes contains triple bond which are unsaturated hydrocarbons. An alcohool contains an OH group and the name is replaces -ane with -anol. While naming aldhydes, the ending is replace -ane to -anal and it contains a carbon atom which has a double bond to oxygen aton and a hydrogen atom attached to the carbon atom as well. All the functional groups have a different naming style and contains different structurally atoms (as shown in the table image)
