Franz Kline is one my absolute favorite abstract expressionists. Although his brush strokes look incredibly spontaneous and emotive, he would actually spend a great deal of time sketching and planning his forms before painting them. To achieve such kinetic emotionalism vis such careful planning is incredible. It was Kline's black-on-white work that inspired me to create my ultra stripped-down black-on-white emotion & experience portraits.
