Number Line Jumping
This is a fun way to add and subtract simple numbers on a number line. This idea originated from the activity that goes with Hap Palmer's "Jumping to Add and Subtract" song (see below). Create a number line on the floor by writing the numbers 0 through 9 on cards or dessert-size paper plates. Number Line Addition & Subtraction Frog Hop K.OA.2 & 1.OA.6 Printable & Digital
Students will enjoy hopping along the frog number line as they solve addition and subtraction problems. Simply place the frogs on the floor for students to hop to right to solve addition problems or hop to the left to solve subtraction problems. This is a great gross motor activity to do prior to working at the tables to complete the worksheets. Students will use the number lines on the sheets next to each simple addition and subtraction sentence to solve problems.
