María Montessori (1870-1952) primera mujer médico italiana también era educadora, psiquiatra, psicóloga, científica, feminista y humanista.En 1907 crea en Roma la Case dei Bambini. Entiende la educación no como una transmisión de cultura, sino como una preparación para la vida. Fue la creadora del método y los materiales Montessori. Actualmente tanto su metodología, como sus materiales siguen vigentes, siendo usados en muchos centros educativos en Educación Infantil.

In 1944 she gave a series of thirty lectures on the first three years of life, and a government recognized training course in Sri Lanka. These lectures were collected in 1949 in the book What You Should Know About Your Child.[85]
